I agree with what Justice Black said. Other then that I feel like it was obvious that there wasn’t enough evidence to even arrest Gideon in the first place. I feel like cases like this one only prove that sometimes the law won’t always be right. I mean the only evidence they had was that someone saw him walking out with a bottle and some money in his pocket. I don’t think that it should have been taken to the level where it was if they had just given him his right to an attorney because even he knew that it was his right. I also feel like even though he defended himself it should have been evident through the evidence presented that he was guilty.

I actually don’t agree with this decision which to me is out of line. I think that if ANYONE has the right to a fair trial it is common sense for them to have a lawyer appointed to them no matter what. Otherwise the fair trial isn’t there. You can’t expect people to simply defend themselves in a court going against another lawyer, a jury, and a judge.
